As part of their lifestyle medicine podcast Plant-Based DFW, Maya Acosta and Dr. Rizwan Bukhari invited me to talk about my program A Happier You and how gratitude, laughter, and helping others can improve our physical and emotional well-being. These positive effects can include better sleep, more energy, a stronger immune system, lower levels of inflammation, and reductions in the body’s production of cortisol, a stress hormone. We also explored the importance of empathy and acceptance in sparking motivation for making healthy lifestyle changes, an essential part of a conversational style called Motivational Interviewing.
